Hi Jakob,
I miss the PSDA source listserv; frankly it was my favorite part of the organization: finding a new source for a new item. I was never a fan of folks that put all the specs of their project along with quantities and a 'please remit price quote' thing. Not fair and I'm pretty sure that was against the rules, but probably not overly enforced by PSDA/Brand Chain.
Not having that listserv reachout has left me a little less confident. With the listserv, I felt more secure because I always had a backup: I could reach out to hundreds of other smart/talented people in the print industry to help me locate a plant that could run something oddball on the west coast, or what plants were on top of their RFID game...now I somewhat feel we have to rely on a web search if trying to find a source. I also liked reading many of the other posts; I was always learning something new. Back then there was way more give and take. People were willing to ask questions and share their opinions. Who knows? Maybe that can happen again.

Hello Jim,
I'm not sure I agree with your comment that we shouldn't use this forum as a sourcing tool.
I am young so do not have credentials or history. But I have been around long enough to have used the PSDA ListServ and the BrandChain ListServ while it was active. It was always my understanding that "sourcing" was one of the main purposes of these services. From my email history, I'd say about 80% of the old PSDA and BrandChain communication was for sourcing. This was a powerful resource for our industry and for our company.
When BrandChain first merged with Printing United Alliance and there was no community specifically for distributors, I had a meeting with Josh and shared with him how important a sourcing tool was for distributors. He agreed and soon thereafter the Distributor Network Community was added to the Printing Units Alliance Online Communities with sourcing as a primary goal. In fact, the description on the Distributor Network Community says its purpose is to "facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and networking among trade-friendly distributors and printers who desire to grow their knowledge, customer base, and range of products sold across the industry." A huge part of that is sourcing.
Please let me know if I am missing something. I just wanted to respond and share my concern. I didn't want someone new joining the Distributor Network Community, seeing your comment, and assuming they shouldn't use the forum as I believe it was intended.
Thank you,
Jakob

PSDA Community,
Note that I dropped the name "Brand Chain" here...never liked it! PSDA was (and is) a far better name: PSDA (Print Services & Distribution Assn.)
To follow-up to an earlier post, Roger, Stuart, Allen and I are hoping to host a "CEO-like Event" during the PUA Expo in October...we will also be an Exhibitor.
Yours truly first joined NBFA in the mid-1970's as a "Distributor" (Automation Papers Company in Fairfield, NJ)...after merging APC with its principal Supplier (Stenco Paper Products in Indianapolis), I got them to join NBFA as a Manufacturer in1982. After selling Stenco to Toronto-based Cutting International, I joined NBFA as a Supplier in 1987. I have been Member of "PSDA" since the mid-1970's in all three (3) Categories (Distributor, Manufacturer & Supplier).
Roger Buck was an active contributor to PSDA while with both Flesh (2010-2017), Ward Kraft (1999-2007) and prior to that Perfection and Ace Forms. He was a "Member of the Year", taught the CFC/CDC accreditation classes along with Print Basics. Roger is both a Member and currently serves Chairman of the Ben Franklin Honor Society.
Stuart Boyar began his career in the printing industry with the Systemedia Div. of NCR. He joined Rochester, NY-based Cooley Group in 1982. In May 1998, Stuart was named President/CEO of Cooley Group which was one of the seven (7) founding distributors that formed the National Business Forms Association in 1946. Stuart served as President of PSDA for the 2017-2018 term and prior to that (beginning April 2013) served on the Board of Directors with roles that included Vice President and Treasurer.
Allen Simon joined NBFA as Manufacturer Datatel Resources Corporation based in Monaca (Pittsburgh), PA in1982. In 1993, Allen was appointed President of Datatel. As an active Member of the Print Services & Distribution Association (PSDA), Allen served on the Board of Directors of the Document Management Industries Association (DMIA) from 1995-1999, being named Manufacturer Vice President of DMIA in 1998. Additionally, Allen was awarded "Forms Pro of the Year" in 1996 by a leading industry publication.
We believe we have "earned-our-stripes" as they say in the "Wonderful World of Print"...and now want to "give back"!
Stay tuned!

PS Please do not turn this forum into a "sourcing tool"...that was what helped kill the PSDA ListServ!
